Talk: Out of Tune – Katarzyna Krakowiak with Matthias Böttger

Talk: 16.07.2015 // 7 p.m. // Polnisches Institut Berlin, Burgstraße 27, 10178 Berlin on the Museumsinsel

Complementing the exhibition Out of Tune a talk between the artist Katarzyna Krakowiak and the curator Matthias Böttger will take place on July 16 at 7 p.m. Architecture is out of tune. With this statement Polish artist Katarzyna Krakowiak makes a reference to concept of Junkspace by Rem Koolhaas.  Koolhaas describes a seamless architecture, which spills around and builds our cities. Junkspace is the fall-out of modernization, the process of filling every gap with provisional structures which promote disorientation and consume landscape.

The concept of Junkspace returns in the newest sound sculpture of Katarzyna Krakowiak presented in the Polish Institute. Here, in her first solo exhibition in Berlin, the artist understands Junkspace as architecture that is out of tune, a phenomenon which reflects a loss of ability to communicate in modern world.
